THE SERIES ... Lakeland travels to Dunedin for a weekend series on Aug. 24-26. Friday’s and Saturday’s games are at 6:30 pm with Sunday’s serires finale getting underway at 5 pm. .

THE FLYING TIGERS (33-25 second half, 1st 0.0 GB, 69-54 overall) ... Lakeland is peaking at the right time having won five games in a row and seven of the last eight to take over sole possession of first place in the North Division with a one-game lead over Dunedin, Tampa and Clearwater. The Flying Tigers own the highest team batting average in the league and now hold a .002 lead over Daytona. Lakeland is also tied for the FSL lead with Bradenton for the league lead with a .977 fielding percentage.

THE BLUE JAYS (31-25 second half, T-2nd, 1.0 GB, 73-50 overall) ... Dunedin is 8-2 its last ten games and has moved into a three-way tie for second place, 1.0 game back of the Flying Tigers, along with Tampa and Clearwater. Closer Danny Barnes, who for some unexplainable reason, is still with the Blue Jays despite his minor league-leading 32 saves. The Blue Jays’ pitching staff has the third lowest ERA in the league with a 3.61 mark.

LAKELAND PROBABLE STARTERS ...
    8/24 - RHP Warwick Saupold (2-1, 3.27 ERA)
... Warwick Saupold  had won back-to-back starts before falling to Dunedin at home on Aug. 17. In that start, the former Australian League pitcher allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 5.1 innings pitched – his longest outing with Lakeland.

PENNANT CHASE ... Lakeland has won five in a row and has taken over sole possession of first place. Dunedin, Tampa and Clearwater are all 1.0 games behind the Flying Tigers. The Flying Tigers are gunning for their first pennant since winning both halves of the season in 2005 and advancing to the Florida State League Championship, falling three games to two to the Palm Beach Cardinals. Should Dunedin, which won the first half, surge ahead and win the second half as well, Lakeland could earn a wild card playoff spot which goes to the club with the best record in the event of a repeat winner. Lakeland plays three games at Dunedin then heads back to Lakeland for the final seven games of the regular season. Brevard County comes in for three games while the Yankees are the Flying Tigers’ opponent for the final four games. Here’s a look the remaining games for the top four teams.
